Tricia Thom

Tricia’s work reflects a love of Japanese aesthetic; simplicity, balance and grace. It seeks also to express something of the connections between people. Teapots and moon jars speak to her as symbols of community and ritual.

The process of making is as important to Tricia as the end product. Tricia’s pieces are wheel-thrown porcelain. Some surfaces are punctuated rhythmically inside and outside and applied with simple, clear celadon glazes.

Some surfaces have intuitive, calligraphic brush marks which serve to compliment the uniformity of the thrown form. The act of throwing porcelain on the wheel, and the physical action of applying decoration to the surface of pots, are intimate, sensory experiences that sustain her and make the process so very meditative and therapeutic.
